Baani is a two-day festival curated by Alarmel Valli that will ring in the centenary year of her Guru, Pandanallur Subaraya Pillai, mark her 50th year as a dancer and celebrate the intersection of the occasions. Under the umbrella of Baani, Alarmel Valli attempts to reiterate the significance of preserving and passing on the legacy of tradition to the generations to come, celebrate the joy of being a recipient of the Pandanallur tradition of dance and pay tribute to her Guru’s selfless imparting of knowledge, through a series of events and performances. Among its many highpoints, the festival will host a concert by T.M. Krishna on October 19 and an Odissi performance by Madhavi Mudgal and Arushi Mudgal on October 20, 2013. The event is being curated by Aalaap, a national performing arts' initiative based in Chennai.
